The influence of culture conditions (type of substrate and composition of culture medium) on proliferation and hormone secretion in the newborn piglets adrenal primary cell culture was studied. The high level of proliferative activity accompanied by a monolayer and multicellular structures (spheroids) formation was observed when cultured in media supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum. During further cultivation or subcultivation neuron-like cells migrated from spheroids. The process occurred in parallel with decreased cortisol secretion and did not depend on neuronal growth factor content in culture medium.

Key words: primary cell culture, adrenal gland, newborn piglets, growth factors, spheroids, cortisol, differentiation.
