Statistically significant shift of sex ratio towards the formation of males upon incubation of Rod-Island Red breed hen’s eggs after the long term storage period was observed. As among the day old chickens and embryos died during the second part of incubation the number of males exceeded that of females practically two times. A hypothesis about possible existence of allele forms of an enzyme aromatase or of a female factor on the W-chromosome differently sensitive to the environmental factors (temperature, long term storage etc.) in various bird populations is suggested, which in turn may lead to the secondary shift of sex ratio.

Key words: bird, sex chromosomes, sex inversion, egg storage, testicles, ovary.
