Unique properties of fluorescent proteins to synthesize and fold spontaneously with formation of the fluorescent groups have attracted attention of many researchers and led to creation of revolutionary new technologies in cell studies. In this review the properties of green fluorescent protein of Aequorea Victoria have been analyzed. Presently, many proteins with these unique properties were synthesized, which allows their application as potent intracellular molecular labels and sensors.
